Annual Ryegrass DOMINATE
High sugar. High intake
Dominate is Vernado’s tetraploid annual ryegrass bred for speed and output: it strikes quickly for early grazing, drives high DM production for 6–12 months, and keeps quality up with high sugars and strong ME. It shows real winter activity that carries into spring, with a large upright leaf for easy mowing and solid disease resistance. Use it as a short-term pasture option, a high-quality feed between maize and the next crop, or for silage/hay where fast, reliable growth matters across a range of soils and climates.
For best results, sow in autumn at 30–35 kg/ha. Under the right conditions you can take the first grazing at around 6–8 weeks. Dominate performs best in moderate-to-higher rainfall areas and works well alongside companions such as annual clover or oats. Where early insect pressure is expected, add a seed treatment to protect establishment and lock in that early strike.
Farm results back it up. Dairy operations have reported strong winter growth versus other species, including a late-September silage cut around 11.7 t DM/ha and a December cut around 16.5 t DM/ha from the same sowing. Pasture tests have shown ME up to ~13.5 with soluble sugars ~18.5–20%+, supporting intake and milk yield. With its wide, upright leaf and even stands, Dominate suits winter–spring grazing, fast silage/hay, oversowing older swards, and as a quick, high-quality break between maize crops.
