Our pasture seed range is specifically developed for persistence. We aim to increase productivity by increasing pasture and crop growth, health, and maintenance through cost-effective solutions providing you with better returns. More than anything else, we are committed to good customer service not only from order to delivery but follow up and anything required throughout the season.
The Story so far
Vernado is a second-generation, family owned and operated business which was started in 2004 by Jim McGaveston. We specialise in seed, fertiliser and growth regulators.
Jim was born and raised on a small dairy farm in Hautere, Otaki Gorge Road milking 80 cows. Soon after leaving school in 1956, he went out on his own growing vegetables and then on from that into growing berry-fruit.
Jim has always had a passion for growing – and growing the best produce, the fastest and healthiest way possible (Growing Smarter).
He started this seed company in 2004 when he saw an opportunity in the cropping, dairy, beef and sheep sector for improving pasture quality by offering top quality high yielding Tetraploid varieties at affordable prices. The goal is to return better yields for the farmers, overflow the milk vat and have the lambs sent to the works before Christmas.
It wasn’t long after proving these pasture varieties successfully that there was a need to feed them more, so he started producing liquid N and growth regulators. A great addition to the product range which have shown some great results.
Jim has how handed the company onto the next generation. Nathan McGaveston now runs, the business with the same passion as Jim before him.
